The Bessemer Rescue Mission was founded
In 1971 Sam Reynolds founded the Bessemer Rescue Mission. Over the next several years Sam would minister to inmates at the Bessemer Jail. Hearing the different struggles of each man, his heart longed to help those in need.
The Bessemer Rescue Mission was expanded to offer shelter to both men and women.
Since it's beginning the rescue mission had primarly served men. In 1992 a duplex on 6th avenue was purchased to provide shelter for homeless women.
Bill Heintz became the Executive Director and implemented the long-term drug and alcohol recovery program for men and women.
A recovered addict himself, Pastor Bill's vision was to provide a place where men and women labeled as addicts, and outcast from society, to have an opportunity to transform their lives through the power of Jesus Christ.
The Foundry Rescue Mission & Recovery Center
The mission's name was changed to The Foundry. What happens in a foundry, distinctly described what God was doing at the mission. The hurting would come through the doors as scrap metal comes to a foundry, seemingly hopeless and useless. But through the foundry's process of melting, molding, pouring, shaking, cleansing and grinding, all things become new.
The Foundry merged with Re-Entry Ministries
By merging with Re-Entry Ministries, The Foundry provided men transitioning from the prison system a safe haven, and the help to become productive members of society.
